A one on one with Total MMA fighter Almad Mabrok!

TTMMA: So Almad for our listeners and followers can you tell us about yourself?
Almad: Well I was born and raised for the first ten years of my life in Riverside, California and then after that my family and I moved to Saudi Arabia and I spent my entire teenage life, early adolescence there and after that I came back to the states and spent about five years of my adult life here in Orange County. I got into mixed martial arts pretty much this past year, I just decided to go get professional training and I came here to Total MMA Studios and I started taking Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes and the Muay Thia and MMA classes.

TTMMA: So tell us what made you make that move into MMA?
Almad: Well, you know, I guess fighting to me is natural. Fighting to me is part of life, a necessary part of life and not just in mixed martial arts as in physical fighting but also against spiritual falsehood. You know growing up in Saudi Arabia I was in a lot of physical fights, they used to call me the American Kid over there and I used to get bullied and pushed around but I always stood up for myself and never allowed myself to be bullied. Then after a few years in school in Saudi Arabia they realized that and though “this guy can fight, he’s no one to mess with”. Really that is how I got into fighting, at that point I didn’t have any training, just natural fighting, just whatever come out of you naturally.

TTMMA: So how did you find out about Total MMA Studios?
Almad: Well actually Ray Elbe, Magical Ray Elbe introduced me to MMA back in 2004 when he was my next door neighbor in Irvine. I got to hang out with him and Big Perm and coincidentally I even met Rampage around that time as well. I was working for a company that wanted to sponsor Rampage and all of a sudden all things came together. Ray Elbe brought me over to No Limits to try it out but I never went back and I left to Saudi Arabia that same year and I didn’t come back to 2009. After that I was watching the Ultimate Fighter and I just decided I am just going to go get that training.

TTMMA: So currently you just finished your third fight, I believe you are 2-1? Can you tell us about your experiences in the cage so far?
Almad: Well praised be to God first and then to Total MMA Studios and everyone here! I have got some great guidance and training here. Like I said I came in here never having any professional training at all and within a matter of a year I learned how to do some things. My first fight I won with an armbar and my second fight I won with a knock out, a technical knockout. What can I say? You train with people who know what they are doing and you are going learn how to do the right things.

TTMMA: Definitely, so in your last fight we understand you lost on a split decision. We heard it was a razor thin decision, that it could have gone either way, can you tell us about it?
Almad: Well my last fight, he was a great opponent. He actually is a MMA instructor and Muay Thai instructor and has been doing it for over 12 years and has over 30 total fights in MMA and Muay Thai, he was a really good opponent. I went in there expecting to win even though I had a rib injury I suffered in training, even though it held my training back some but I still went in there expecting to win and I still feel I did win.

In the fight you know my opponent was good in grappling, I felt I took the first round and the second round he put me up against the cage and pinned me there and I felt that instead of working my way off of it I would just use my knees. Well he won, you know with that strategy he won according to the judges and on paper and I would like to have a rematch with him, I feel I would either knock him out or submit him. Hopefully though that time will eventually come.

TTMMA: So looking ahead, tell us where do you see yourself, do you want to continue training and fighting as an amateur?
Almad: For me I am happy training mixed martial arts and don’t see myself stopping the training and the way I look at it if I am going to keep training and I am going to keep taking fights and someday in the future I will go pro God willing and just because its part of the process of being a fighter, not because its my goal to go pro but because its my goal to become a fighter and going pro will take me to a higher elevated level of fighting.

TTMMA: Well that’s great! We thank you for taking the time to talk with us Almad and wish you all the best!
Almad: Thank you!
