A radiant Milton Vieira could not have asked for a more perfect setting for his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut.
Vieira (13-7) will lock horns with Felipe Arantes in his homeland at UFC 147 on June 23, possibly at the Felipe Drummond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The 33-year-old Pride Fighting Championships veteran will carry a three-fight winning streak into his first Octagon appearance.“Miltinho,” who has fought professionally since 2001, last appeared at Strikeforce Challengers 18 in August, when he submitted Sterling Ford with a first-round brabo choke.
In this exclusive interview with Sherdog.com, Vieira discusses his training for the Arantes bout, his desire to work with muay Thai specialist Sergio Cunha and the growth of MMA in Brazil. He also touched on whether or not he actually invented the anaconda choke and his plans to put together a book on 32 ways to apply the technique.
Sherdog.com: After competing in MMA for so long, how did you greet the news that you would be fighting at a UFC event in Brazil?
Vieira: It was wonderful to hear I was fighting on this card. I have not studied Felipe yet, but it was good to hear that I’ll be fighting in the UFC.

This past Saturday 2 members of our Muay Thai competition team would see action at the Hollywood Park Casino’s “Chaos in the Casino”event. That night both Daniel “Il’est Jong” Hwang and Bogdan “The Law” Grechka would represent us proudly as both fighters would leave it all in the ring.
The night’s action would start off with Grechka. Coming back from over a year off from competition Grechka would start out slow as he would eat some combinations before settling in and landing some strikes of his own. And although Bo would end the fight dominating, the judges would award his opponent the split decision.
Bryce Krause, Total MMA’s head Muay Thai coach would go on to comment on Bo’s performance, saying “Bo fought a reat back and forth fight! Unfortunately we ran out of rounds tonight, I’m proud of his fight! He’s highly coachable and is willing to work and that’s all you’re looking for when working with an athlete. We’ll be back and better from this one.”
Shortly after Grechka’s fight Daniel “Ilest Jong” Hwang would step into the ring to face HYE fighter Ando Janoyan. From the sound of the bell both fighter would stand toe to toe and throw some heavy punches, but it would be Hwang who would get the better of the exchanges as our fighter would knock down Janoyan twice before the ref would call the fight and award him the KO victory.
An ecstatic Coach Krause would go on to say, “You know I’ve been training this kid since he was 16 (now nearly 20). He is the hardest working kid I know! My last words to him before the bell sounded were for him to earn his fight. Well he did and you know what, this fight was earned long ago by Dan’s tireless work ethic and discipline to being the best he can be. I couldn’t more proud in seeing him create his own success.”
