BTT 2011 Kids PanAm Results!

I was looking around the internet at some of the opponents’ schools last night before this tournament and one of the head instructors posted to his team that this was a tournament for experienced BJJ kids and their beginners could not compete because there was no white belt division.

I thought that was interesting, but Franklin and John had a different perspective for the BTT Long Beach Kids. We informed our white belts that they would have to fight in the yellow belt division, and that they were all ready and welcome to do so. We had 15 competitors–8 or which were white belts, 6 yellow belts and 1 orange belt.

When Daniel stepped to the mat as a white belt, his yellow belt opponent looked at his belt and then looked to his instructor and nodded with a big smug smile because Daniel was a white belt. Daniel proceeded to sweep, mount and skunk his opponent 6 to 0. The smile and the opponent quickly disappeared as Daniel moved on and ended up with the Silver.

Our kids fought with honor and vigor, and 15 kids took home 13 medals–5 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze. Some were allowed to fight and win their bracket, yet disqualified because they did not bring an ID. Hmmm. A kid without an ID. Imagine that.

Franklin, John, and Master Marcelo all are extremely proud of our warriors.

Luis Salgado captures win on his return to the ring!!!

The TotalMMA team would like to congratulate Luis Salgado on his win last night at the OC Fight Club event held at the Hangar at the OC Fair and Event Center. Salgado would go back and forth with LBFN veteran Ozzy Alvarez for most of the fight before landing a right hand that would KO the gladiator MMA fighter and force the ref to call the fight.

This was Salgado’s return to the ring and we look forward to supporting him in the future.

Introducing Open Gym, Open Mat and Open Ring

The staff at total MMA studios would like to announce the open gym, open mat and open ring features. These features will be available to all our members regardless of experience as it is designed to help members improve their techniques. The concept has been so successful with our jiu-jitsu program that we would like to extend it to our kickboxing and muay thai members as well.

Open Ring
For our Muay Thai students we will have an open ring class on Monday and Wednesday nights at 8pm. This class will make use of the cage, ring and focus pads to sharpen techniques acquired in class. This class will also feature open sparring for any advanced students that are given the ok by our coaching staff.

Open Mat
Another class already available is our open mat class, this class for all our BTT Orange County and Wrestling students. This class also features time for both techniques and rolling but the rolling will only be offered to advanced members once approved by our coaching staff. These classes will be available Saturdays and Sundays from 11am – 1pm.

Open Gym
To go along with these classes the open gym feature will offer members the use of the facility anytime from open to close. Whether you want to work on the heavy bags, hit pads, drill techniques from any and all classes offered, the gym will be open for you. The only difference with the open gym feature is there can be no sparring/rolling during these times. That is only reserved for the open mat and open muay thai classes.

The TotalMMA team is excited to add these classes to our schedule and we look forward to seeing our members improve on the mat.
